Ans. Dr. Sadao Hoki was a famous Japanese surgeon and scientist. He completed his study of medicine in America. He lived in a house which was built on the Japanese Coast. The house was surrounded by pine trees.
डॉ. सदाओ हाँकी एक प्रसिद्ध बापानी सर्जन (शल्य चिकित्सक) और वैज्ञानिक थे। उन्होंने अमेरिका में अपना चिकित्स का अध्ययन पूरा किया। वह जिस घर में रहता था वह जपानी तट पर बनाया गया था। पर देवदार के पेड़ों से घिरा हुआ था।
2. Why was Sadao sent to America and why was later kept in Japan?
सदाओं को अमेरिका क्यों भेजा गया और बाद में जापान में क्यों रखा गया ?
Ans. The General considered Dr. Sadao indispensible. He felt that his life could be saved only by him, as he was very skilled. General also does not trust anyone except Dr. Sadao. So he was not sent do the battle field.
जनरल ने डॉक्टर सदाओं को अपरिहार्य माना। उन्होंने महसूस किया कि उनके जीवन को केवल डॉक्टर सदाओं के द्वारा ही बचाया जा सकता है, क्योंकि वे बहुत कुशल थे। जनरल भी डॉ. सदाओं को छोड़कर किसी पर भरोसा नहीं करते इसलिए उन्हें युद्ध के मैदान में नहीं भेजा गया।

Ans. Hana was wife of Dr. Sadao. He met Hana by chance at an American professor's house They held a party at their home for their few foreign students. Hana was a new student
हाना डॉ. सदाओं की पत्नी थी। होना एक अमेरिकी प्रोफेसर के घर में संयोग से मिली। उन्होंने विदेशी के लिए अपने घर पर एक पार्टी रखी होना एक नई छात्रा थी।
4. What did Hana and Dr. Sadao see out of the mist? What did they think?
हाना और डॉ. सदाओं ने धुंध (कोहरे) में क्या देखा? उन्होंने क्या सोचा?
Ans. Both of them saw something black come out of the mists. It was a man. He was flung up out of the ocean, flung it seemed, to his feet by a breaker. He staggered few steps and fell. Both of them thought that it was a fisherman perhaps.
दोनों ने देखा कि धुंध में से कुछ काला सा निकल आया। वह एक आदमी था। यह समुद्र के बाहर फेंक दिया गया था। ऐसा लग रहा था जैसे किसी बड़ी लहर ने उसे फेंक दिया था। वह कुछ कदम लड़खड़ाया और गिर गया। दोनों ने यह सोचा कि शायद एक मछुआरा है।
5. Who was the wounded person? What was happened to him?
घायल व्यक्ति कौन था? उसके साथ क्या हुआ था?
Ans. The wounded person was an American soldier. He was badly wounded and the sand on one side of him had already a stain of red soaking through. On the right side of his lower back Sadao saw that a gun wound had been reopened.
घायल व्यक्ति एक अमेरिकी सैनिक वा जी बुरी तरह से घायल हो गया था और उसके एक तरफ लगे रेत पर सोखे हुए खून का बना था। पीठ के निचले हिस्से की दायीं ओर सदाओं ने देखा कि बंदूक का पान फिर से खुल गया था।
6. What did they do with that wounded man and what was his condition?
उन्होंने उस घायल आदमी के साथ क्या किया और उसकी क्या हालत थी ?
Ans. Sadao was a doctor and he had been trained to save every life. His dedication towards his profession prompted to save the soldier's life. Both Hana and Sadao took the wounded man to their house for treatment. He was wounded and a gun wound was reopened and it was bleeding
सदाओं एक ऑॉक्टर थे और उन्हें हर जीवन को बचाने के लिए प्रशिक्षित किया गया था। अपने पेशे के प्रति उनके समर्पण ने सैनिकों के जीवन को बचाने के लिए प्रेरित किया। हाना और सदाओं दोनों पायल आदमी को इलाज के लिए अपने घर ले गए। यह घायल हो गया था और बंदूक वाला पान फिर से खुल गया था और यहाँ से खून बह रहा था।

Ans. Yumi was the caretaker of the kids and a maid in Sadao's house. When Hana told her to wash and clean the wounded soldier she refused to do so.
यूमी बच्चों की देखभाल करने वाली थी और वह सदाओं के घर में नौकरानी थी जब हाना ने उसे घायल सैनिक को धोने और साफ करने के लिए कहा तो उसने ऐसा करने से मना कर दिया।
8. Who washed the American soldier and why?

Ans. Hana washed and cleaned the American soldier with hot water. She did so because Yumi had refused to wash a white man.
हाना ने अमेरिकी सैनिक को गर्म पानी से धोया और साफ किया। उसने ऐसा इसलिए किया क्योंकि यूमी ने श्वेत व्यक्ति को धोने से मना कर दिया था।
9. How did Dr. Sadao operate the white man?
डॉक्टर सदाओ ने सफेद (गोरे) आदमी का कैसे ऑपरेशन किया?
Ans. Sadao had to perform an operation to take bullet out of the body of American soldier. The soldier was given anesthetic. Dr. Sadao felt the tip of his instrument with some hard object. It was a bullet. Then Dr. Sadao took out the bullet with cleanest possible manner.
अमेरिकी सैनिक के शरीर से गोली निकालने के लिए सदाओ को एक ऑपरेशन करना था। सैनिक को चेतना शून्य करने वाली औषधी दिया गया। डॉ. सदाओं ने अपने यंत्र की नोक को किसी कठोर वस्तु से महसूस किया। यह एक गोली दी और तब डॉक्टर सदाओ ने इस गोली को सबसे स्वच्छ तरीके से निकाला।
10. How did the youngman (American) wake up? What did he say first?
नौजवान आदमी (अमेरिका) कैसे जागा? उसने सबसे पहले क्या कहा?
Ans. The youngman woke, so weak, his blue eyes so terrified when he perceived where, he w He asked Hana, how did she know English.
युवक बहुत कमजोर है और उसकी नीली आँखें सहमी हुई दिखी जब उसने महसूस किया कि वह कहाँ है। उसने पूछा कि यह अंग्रेजी कैसे जानती है।
11. What did the servants say and how did they react?

Ans. According to servants, it was an act of treason. They looked upon the American as the enemies since Japan and America were at war. When they found that instead of handing over the enemy soldier to the police, Dr. Sadao had decided to treat him, so the serv decided to leave the house.
नौकरों के अनुसार यह देशद्रोह था। वे अमेरिकी को अपने दुश्मन के रूप में देखते थे क्योंकि जापान और अमेरिका में थे। जब उन्होंने पाया कि डॉ. सदाओं ने दुश्मन सैनिक को पुलिस को सौंपने के बजाय इसका इलाज करने का फैसल किया था इसलिए नौकरों ने घर छोड़ने का फैसला किया।
12. Why did the messenger come to Dr. Sadao's house and who sent him?

Ans. The massenger came to Dr. Sadao because Dr. Sadao was called by the General because he was in pain again.
संदेश वाहक डॉक्टर सदाओं के पास आया क्योंकि डॉक्टर सदाओं को जनरल ने बुलाया था क्योंकि जनरल को फिर दर्द हो रहा था।
13. Who was the General? Why did he call Dr. Sadao?

Ans. General Takima was an old and selfish General of Japan. He was very cruel. But he cares only about himself. He needs services of Dr. Sadao therefore knowingly ignores the issue of American soldier. He called Dr. Sadao as he was in pain again and he was under treatment of Dr. Sadao.

Ans. General promised Dr. Sadao that he would not let him come in trouble. He will send assassins your's home and they will kill the American soldier. Moreover they will remove the body also. But in actually assassins had never came and Sadao himself managed to get rid of the problem.
जनरल ने डॉक्टर सदाओं से वादा किया कि वह उन्हें परेशानी में नहीं आने देगें। वह हत्यारों को तुम्हारे घर भेज देगा और वे अमेरिकी सैनिक को मार देंगे। इसके अलावा वे शरीर को भी हटा देंगे। लेकिन वास्तव में हत्यारे कभी नहीं आए और सदाओ खुद समस्या से छुटकारा पाने का प्रबंधक करता है।
15. What had happend on the third night after the planning of killing the American soldier?
अमेरिकी सैनिक को मारने की योजना के बाद तीसरी रात्रि को क्या हुआ था ?
Ans. On the third night wind changed to quite rain and the garden was full of the sound of dripping eaves and running springs. Sadao slept a little better, but he woke at the sound of a crash and tried to go to the room of American soldier but Hana stopped him. In the morning young American was there..
तीसरी रात तेज हवा बारिश में बदल गई और जो बाग टपकने वाले बाजों और बहते झरनों की आवाज से भर गया। सदाओ बेहतर सो गया, लेकिन यह एक क्रैश की आवाज पर तथा जाग गया और अमेरिकी सैनिक के कमरे में जाने की कोशिश की लेकिन ज्ञाना ने उसे रोक दिया। सुबह अमेरिकी नहीं था।
16. What did Dr. Sadao think to get rid of that soldier of an enemy country?
बाँसवाओं ने दुश्मन देश के उस सैनिक से छुटकारा पाने के लिए क्या सोचा?
Ans. Dr. Sadao had saved the man with great efforts. He didn't want him to hand over to the police and get him killed. Therefore he decided to help the man get away in his boat and he loaded his boat with sufficient provisions.
डॉ. सदाओं ने बड़ी मशक्कत से उस व्यक्ति को बचाया था। यह नहीं चाहता था कि वह उसे पुलिस के हवाले करें और उसे मार डाला जाए। इसलिए उसने उस आदमी को नाव में चढ़ाने का फैसला किया और उसने अपनी नामको पर्याप्त संसाधानों के साथ लाद दिया।
17. What did the white man (the American soldier) think of Dr. Sadao?
श्वेत व्यक्ति (अमेरिकी सैनिक) ने डॉ० सदाओं के सम्बन्ध में क्या सोचा?
Ans. American soldier thought that Dr. Sadao was a Japanese, inspite of Japan being at war with America, Sadao saved the life of an American soldier. He considered humanity above nationality. If everybody thought this way, there will be no war.
अमेरिकी सैनिक ने सोचा कि डॉ. सदाओं एक जापानी थे, जापान का अमेरिका के साथ युद्ध के बावजूद सदाओं ने एक अमेरिकी सैनिक का जीवन बचाया। उन्होंने मानवता को राष्ट्रीयता से ऊपर रखा। हर कोई यदि ऐसा सोचे तो बुद्ध नहीं होगा।
18. Why did the General have a trust and closeness in Dr. Sadao?
जनरल को डॉ० सदाओं पर भरोसा और उसके साथ घनिष्ठता क्यों थी?
Ans. The General had trust and closeness in Sadao because he was ill. He might need an operation any time. He did not trust any other doctor except Sadao to operate upon him.
जनरल को सदाओं में भरोसा और घनिष्ठता थी क्योंकि यह बीमार था। उसे कभी भी ऑपरेशन की आवश्यकता पड़ सकती थी। वह सदाओं के अतिरिक्त किसी अन्य डॉ. पर ऑपरेशन के विषय में भरोसा नहीं कर सकता था।
19. Why did Dr. Sadao save the life of the war prisoner, an American being a Japanese doctor?
डॉ ० सदाओं ने एक जापानी डाक्टर होने के बावजूद भी एक अमेरिकी युद्ध बन्दी का जीवन क्यों बचाया?
Ans. Sadao was a doctor. He had been trained to save every life he could. He was true to his profession. Dedication to his profession prompted to save the soldier's life, though he belonged to his enemy country.
सदाओं एक डॉक्टर थे। उन्हें हर उस जीवन को बचाने के लिए प्रशिक्षित किया गया था जिसे वे बचा सकते थे। वे अपने पेशे के प्रति सरल और ईमानदार थे। उनका अपने पेशे के प्रति समर्पण सैनिक के जीवन को बचाने के लिए प्रेरित किया। हालांकि सैनिक दुश्मन देश का था।
20. What was Dr. Sadao thinking standing in the verandah of his house at last?

Ans. Standing in verandah gazing to the see Sadao thought about white faces he had known. The Professer, at whose home he had met Hana. Professor's talkative wife. His oid teacher of anatomy and his landlady who had looked after him when he was ill.
समुद्र की ओर टकटकी लगाकर अपने बरामदे में खड़े होकर सदाओं ने उन श्वेत चेहरों के बारे में सोचा जिन्हें वह जानता था। यह प्रोफेसर जिसके घर वह हाना से मिला प्रोफेसर की बातुनी पत्नी उसके वृद्ध एनाटोमी (शरीर रचना विज्ञान) के अध्यापक और उसकी मकान मालकिन जिसने उसकी बीमारी में देखभाल की थी।
21. Was Dr. Sadao a traitor or a patriot? Explain?
क्या डॉ० सदाओ एक देशद्रोही थे अथवा एक देशभक्त थे? व्याख्या कीजिए।
Ans. Dr. Sadao is full of finer values of humanity, As a doctor he saved the life of American soldier. In this way Dr. Sadao was able to maintain his professional loyality. But Dr. Sadao was patriot from core of his heart. Therefore he wrote a letter to the authorities about it and put it in his drawer. He even told the General about American soldier.
डॉ. सदाओं मानवता के उच्च गुणों से भरा है। एक डॉक्टर के रूप में उन्होंने अमेरिकी सैनिक को बचाया। इस प्रकार सदाओं अपने पेरों की निष्ठा बचाने में सक्षम रहे। किन्तु डॉo साओ हृदय से देशभक्त थे। इसलिए उन्होंने प्राधिकारी को एक पत्र लिखा और उसे अपनी दराज में रख दिया। उन्होंने अमेरिकी सैनिक के विषय में जनरल को भी बताया।

Answer the following questions in not more than 150 words each:
1. Who was Dr. Sadao? How did he meet Hana and married to her? Who played an important role in their marriage and how?
डॉ० सदाओ कौन थे? वह हाना से कैसे मिले और उसके साथ उनका विवाह कैसे हुआ? उनके विवाह में एक महत्त्वपूर्ण भूमिका किसने निभाई और कैसे?
Ans. Dr. Sadao was a famous Japanese surgeon and scientist. He was perfecting a discovery to make wounds completely clean. Both Hana and Sadao met at the professor's house Sadao started liking Hana. Though professor's wife was very voluble yet they were kind people and Sadao started living there as a paying guest. Sadao told his father about his love for Hana. His father first confirmed that she was pure of Japanese race. Then they were married. Thus we can say that the American professor and his wife proved instrumental in bringing Sadao and Hana together.
डॉ. सदाओं प्रसिद्ध जापानी सर्जन और वैज्ञानिक थे। वह एक ऐसी दवा की खोज कर रहे थे जो घाव को पूरी तरह साफ कर दे। हाना और सदाओं प्रोफेसर के घर पर मिले थे। सदाओ हाना को पसन्द करने लगा था यद्यपि प्रोफेसर की बहुत बातूनी दी फिर भी तो भले लोग थे और सदाओ वहीं किराएदार के रूप में रहने लगा था। सदाओं ने हाना और अपने प्रेम के विषय में अपने पिता को बताया। सदाओं के पिता ने पहले यह सुनिश्चित किया कि हाना पूरी शुद्ध पानी है या नहीं। फिर उनकी शादी हो गई। इस प्रकार हम कह सकते हैं कि प्रोफेसर और उसकी पत्नी ने सदाओ और हाना को करीब लाने में महत्त्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई।
2. How did Dr. Sadao save the life of the American war prisoner? How did his wife Hana help him in that act and what was the reaction of the servants and why? Explain.
डॉ० सदाओ ने अमेरिकी युद्ध बन्दी का जीवन कैसे बचाया? उस कार्य में उसकी पत्नी हाना ने उसकी कैसे सहायता के और नौकरों की क्या प्रतिक्रिया थी और क्यों? व्याख्या कीजिए।
Ans. As a doctor Dr. Sadao was trained he should never let a person die if he could help. Thus it was nothing unpatriotic on part of Dr. Sadao. He even told Hana that wounded person should be operated. Dr. Sadao had to perform an operation to take bullet out of the body of American soldier. The soldier was given anesthetic. Dr. Sadao felt the tip of his instrument with same hard object. It was a bullet. Then Dr. Sadao probed with his fingers and tookout the bullet with cleanest possible manner. Hana helped her husband in the operation she herself washed to American soldier. While Sadao performed the operation. Hana helped him in giving the anesthetic. She acted as a nurse while her husband was performing operation.
एक डॉक्टर के रूप में सदाओं को प्रशिक्षित किया गया था कि वह किसी व्यक्ति को मरने ने दे यदि वह बचा सकता है। इसलिए उसके लिए यह राष्ट्र विरोधी नहीं था। उसने हाना को यह भी बताया कि घायल व्यक्ति का ऑपरेशन करना पड़ेगा। डॉ. सदाओं को अमेरिकी सैनिक के शरीर से गोली निकालने के लिए ऑपरेशन करना पड़ा था। सैनिक को निस्वेतक (चेतना को शून्य करने वाली औषधि) दिया गया। डॉ. सदाओ ने महसूस किया कि उसके औजार की नक किसी कठोर चीज से टकराई जो एक गोली थी। फिर डॉ. सदाओ ने अपनी उँगलियों से बड़ी सफाई से गोली को बाहर दिया। हाना ने अपने पति की ऑपरेशन में मदद की। उसने स्वयं अमरीकी सैनिक को साफ किया जबकि सदाओ ने ऑपरेशन किया। हाना ने निस्वेतक देने में उसकी मदद की। जब उसका पति ऑपरेशन कर रहा था तब हाना ने एक परिचारिका के रूप में उसकी मदद किया।

जनरल कौन था? डॉ० सदाओ उसके नजदीक (उसका खास) क्यों और कैसे था? उसने डॉ० सदाओं की करते के लिए कैसे वायदा किया? क्या उसका वायदा पूरा हुआ? क्यों अथवा क्यों नहीं?
Ans. General Takima was an old selfish General of Japan. He was very cruel. But he cared only about himself. He needed services of Dr. Sadao when Dr. Sadao told the General that he had operated upon the prisoner and saved his life, the General praised him as a Doctor and appreciated Dr. Sadao's unparalleled skill in surgery. He was ill and might need an operation any time. Sadao was the only doctor whom he trusted for his health. So he said that he would not let Sadao be arrested on the charge of sheltering an enemy. He had apprehensions about his own health, if Sadao was condemned to death. So he cared much for Sadao. He proposed that he could send his private assassins to Sadao's house. They would secretly kill the prisoner and remove his body altogether from his house. Thus, Sadao would get rid of the prisoner. In actually, the assassins had never come. So the promise of general was not fulfilled. The general forgot about his promise which he had made to Sadao. So, Sadao himself arranged to get rid of American Soldier.
जनरल टाकिया एक जापानी स्वार्थी वृद्ध जनरल था। वह बड़ा क्रूर था वह सिर्फ अपनी परवाह करता था। उसे सदाओं की सेवाओं की आवश्यकता थी जब डॉ. सदाओं ने जनरल को यह बताया कि उसने अमेरिकी सैनिक का ऑपरेशन करके उसकी रक्षा की है। तब जनरल ने उसकी प्रशंसा की और डॉ. सदाओं की शल्य चिकित्सा में उनके अतुलनीय कौशल की सराहना की जनरल बीमार था और उसे कभी भी ऑपरेशन की आवश्यकता पड़ सकती साओ एक मात्र डॉ. था जिस पर वह स्वास्थ्य के विषय में भरोसा कर सकता था। इसलिए उसने कहा कि वह डॉ. को कभी गिरफ्तार नहीं होने देगा एक शत्रु को पनाह (शरण) देने के आरोप में उसे स्वयं के स्वास्थ्य की तिथी अगर सदाओं को मृत्यु दण्ड दिया गया तो इसलिए उसने सदाओं को बचाया। उसने यह रखा कि यह अपने पेशेवर हत्यारे सदाओं के पर भेज देगा। वे कैदी को गोपनीयता से मार देंगे और शरीर को वहाँ से हटा देंगे। इस प्रकार स कैदी से मुक्ति पा जाएगा। वास्तव में हत्यारे आए ही नहीं और जनरल का वादा पूरा नहीं हुआ। जनरल सदाओं से किए यादे को भूल गया। सदाओं को स्वयं ही अमरीकी सैनिक से छुटकारा पाने की व्यवस्था करनी पड़ी।

डॉ० सदाओं ने टॉम, श्वेत आदमी, एक अमेरिकी से छुटकारा पाने के लिए कैसे योजना बनाई? उस बन्द की सओ के लिए क्या सोच थी? क्या वह बच पाया? हो अथवा ना, वर्णन कीजिए।
Ans. Dr. Sadao had saved the man, with great efforts. He didn't want to him handover to the police and get him killed. Therefore he decided to help the man get away in his boat. Hie loaded his boat with sufficient provisions. He asked the man to row the boat to a nearby island. Tom said that Dr. Sadao who was a Japanese. Inspite of Japan being at war with America, Sadao, a Japanese doctor, saved the life of an American soldier. He considered humanity to be above nationality. It everybody thought this way, there will be no war. Yes the prisoner was escaped.
डॉ. सदाओं ने घायल व्यक्ति का जीवन बड़े प्रयास से बचाया था। वो उसे पुलिस के हवाले नहीं करना चाहता था वह मार दिया जाए। इसलिए उसने निर्णय लिया कि वह उसकी नाव से भगाने में मदद करेगा। उसने अपनी नाव में सभी खाने पीने का सामन रख दिया। उसने उस व्यक्ति से कहा कि वह नाव को खेकर उस द्वीप पर चला जाए। टॉम ने कहा सदाओ जापानी होने के बावजूद और तब जब जापान और अमेरिका में युद्ध हो रहा था। सदाओं ने एक अमेरिकी सैनिक का जीवन बचाया। उसने मानवता को राष्ट्रीयता के ऊपर रखा। अगर हर कोई यह सोचेगा तो युद्ध नही होंगे। हां, कैदी भाग गया।
