Ans. The third level refers to the subway of the Grand Central station in New York. Though this Third Level was not present there physically, but Charley claimed it to be present there The third level was at Grand Central station in New York.
तीसरा स्तर न्यूयॉर्क में अँड सेन्ट्रल स्टेशन के उपमार्ग को संदर्भित करता है। संदेह है कि यह तीसरा स्तर शारीरिक रूप से वहाँ मौजूद नहीं था. लेकिन चार्ली ने इसे वहाँ मौजूद होने का दावा किया। तीसरा स्तर न्यूयॉर्क के अँड सेंट्रल स्टेशन पर था।
2. Who was psychiatrist? What did he tell about the third level?

Ans. Sam was Charley's psychiatrist friend. He had believed that Charley had got the whims of third level as a waking dream wish fulfilment. He had been only day dreaming Side by side he revealed that the third level was still there. In reality Charley was upset from his dull life.

Ans. Charley said that his grandfather lived in nice and peaceful times, yet he was the one who had started the stamp collection. He did not need any temporary refuge from reality.

Ans. Charley had been late at his office. He desired to reach home early. So he went to Grand Central to catch a suburban train. He was lost in a corridor. He thought it was a second level. But he had reached the third level.

5. Why did Charley think that Grand Central was growing like a tree, pushing out new corridors and staircases like roots?

Ans. At the third level, Charley saw the people wearing old fashioned dress, an old locomotive, newspaper dated June 11, 1894, brass spittoons, flickering gas flames light and many other things related to that century,

Ans. Charley describes it as a wonderful town with a leisurely way of life with big old frame houses, huge lawns, tremendous tress and a peaceful tranquil world. During summe evenings people sat in their lawns, with man smoking cigars and women waving palm le fans. The first World War was twenty years away and the second World War was forty years into the future.

9. What happened with Charley at the ticket window?

Ans. Charley went to the ticket counter for two tickets to Galesburg. He paid the currency of the present world which was totally different from 1890s world. On seeing the big notes, the clerk got stunned and he thought that Charley was trying to skin him. He threatened to ge him arrested.

10. Did Charley find the corridor at Grand Central Station again? Why or why not?

Ans. He tried his best to find the corridor that led to the third level at the Grand Central station but he never found it. Since the third level is just a medium for escape. So Charley is not only lingering but has also entered into the world of fantasy and romance. Hence, he would not be able to reach there.
उन्होंने उम्र गलियारे (कॉरिडोर) को खोजने की पूरी कोशिश की जोकि सीधे बैंड सेंट्रल स्टेशन पर तीसरे तल को जाता था। लेकिन उन्हें वह कभी नहीं मिल पाया। तीसरा तल केवल पलायन का एक माध्यम है। इसलिए चार्ली न केवल सुरक्ष है बल्कि कल्पना और रोमांस की दुनिया में भी प्रवेश कर चुका है। इसलिए वह वहाँ नहीं पहुंच सकेगा।
11. Who was Sam Weiner? Where was he disappeared and why?
सैम वीनर कौन था? यह कहाँ गायब हो गया था और क्यों?
Ans. Sam Weiner was a psychiatrist friend of Charley. Charley's friend Sam disappeared all of a sudden without a trace but Charley could make a guess because he knew that Sam liked Galesburg very much. He became sure of it when he found an envelope mailed by Sam to his grandfather at his home in Galesburg. From the stamp and coin store Charley gets to know that Sam had bought old style currency worth eight hundred dollars. This money was sufficient to set him up in a little hay, feed and grain business in Galesburg.

12. What was 'stamp collection'? How was it related to Charley?

Ans. When a new stamp is issued, stamp collectors buy some and use them to mail envelopes to themselves on the very first day of sale; and the postmark proves the date. The stamp collection is the link which joins the past and present in the story. This collection was passed on to Charley from his grandfather.
जब नई स्टैम्प जारी की जाती है तो स्टैम्प कलेक्टर कुछ खरीद लेते हैं और बिक्री के पहले ही दिन स्वयं को लिफाफे

13. What did Sam write in his letter to Charley?

Ans. Sam's letter to Charley proves that Sam has found and reached to the third level. He is staying there in Galesburg since last two weeks and watching various activities and explains to Charley. He invites both Charley and his wife Louisa and motivates them, to continue their search of the third level. So, we can say that Sam was also a victim of worldly worries and seeking the escapement, like Charley.
चार्ली को सैम का पत्र साबित करता है जो उसी ने पाया है और तीसरे स्तर तक पहुँच गया है। वह पिछले दो हफ्तों से गैलिसबर्ग में रह रहा है तथा विभिन्न गतिविधियों को देख रहा है और चार्ली को समझाता है। वह चालीं और उसकी पत्नी दोनों को आमंत्रित करता है और उन्हें तीसरे तल के लिए अपनी खोज जारी रखने के लिए प्रेरित करता है। इसलिए हम कह सकते हैं कि वही सांसारिक चिंताओं का भी शिकार था और चार्ली की तरह भागने की कोशिश कर रहा था।
14. Why did Sam bought old currency of eight hundred dollars ? What did he do with it?

Ans. Charley got to know that Sam had bought eight hundred dollars worth of old currency. Sam had already gone there in 1894's Galesburg, Charley hoped Sam would set up a hay and feed business in old Galesburg

Answer the following questions in not more than 150 words each:
1. What was the third level? Where was it situated and how was it described (reason of existence) by psychiatrist Sam?
तृतीय लेवल (तल) क्या था? वह कहाँ पर स्थित था और उसकी मनोवैज्ञानिक सैम द्वारा कैसे व्याख्या (अस्तित्व का कारण) की गई थी?
Ans. The third level refers to the subway of the Grand Central Station in New York. Though this Third Level was not present there physically, but Charley claimed it to be present there. Sam's letter to Charley is dated 18th July 1894. It is written from Galesburg, Illinois. In response to Charley's claim of having visited the third level, Sam who is equally insecure wishes the entire episode is true, as he too believes in the existence of the third level. There are some inferences made by the letter. The introductory part of the letter confirms Charley's belief in the existence of the third level.

2. How did Charley reach to the third level? How was the Grand Central Station according to Charley extending and why?

Ans. One night Charley worked till late at the office. Then he was in a hurry to get back to his house. So he decided to take the subway from Grand Central. He went down the steps and came to the first level. Then he walked down to the second level from where the suburban trains left. He ducked into an arched doorway that headed to the subway, and got lost. Knowing that he was going wrong he continued to walk downward. The tunnel turned sharp left and then taking a short flight of stairs he came out on the third level at the Grand Central Station. Here he saw many unusual things. There were few ticket windows and train gates were old looking and made of wood. Dim gas lights flickered and men wore derby hats and four button suits. It was rather strange world of sideburns beards and fancy mustaches.
एक रात चाल ने कार्यालय में देर तक काम किया। तब वह अपने घर वापस जाने की जल्दी में था इसलिए उन्होंने अँड सेंट्रल से उपमार्ग लेने का फैसला किया। वह कदमों से नीचे गया और पहले स्तर पर आ गया। उसके बाद वह दूसरे स्तर पर चला गया जहाँ से उपशहरी ट्रेने निकलती हैं। वह एक धनुषाकार दरवाजे के रास्ते में झुका जो उसे उपमार्ग तक से गया और लुप्त हो गया। यह जानते हुए कि वह गलत जा रहा था उसने नीचे सीढ़ियों की एक छोटी उड़ान लेकर वह अँड सेंट्रल स्टेशन पर तीसरे स्तर पर निकल आयी। यहाँ उन्होंने कई असामान्य चीजें देखीं कुछ टिकट खिड़कियाँ थीं और ट्रेन के पुराने गेट (दरवाजे) दिख रहे थे और वे लकड़ी के बने थे। मंद (धीमी) गैस की रोशनी टिमटिमाती है और पुरुषों ने डर्बी टोपी और 4 बटन वाले सूट पहने हैं। वह साइडबर्न की दाढ़ी और फैसी मूंछों की विचित्र दुनिया थी।
3. Describe the third level as per Charley. What did he do to make sure that he was in 1894? Why did he want to buy tickets?
चार्ली के अनुसार तृतीय तल का वर्णन कीजिए। उसने निश्चित करने के लिए कि वह 1894 में था, क्या किया? वह टिकट क्यों खरीदना चाहता था ?
Ans. Charley says that the rooms on the third level were smaller than that of the second level There were fewer ticket windows and train gates and information booth in the centre was wood and old looking. There were open flame gas lights and brass spittoons, on the floor. Everyone on the station was dressed in 19th century. To make sure, he looked at the newspaper which were on sale at a kiosk and found a newspaper "The World" which carried a main story on President Cleavend. Then he confirmed from the public library files that the newspaper he had seen was dated 11 June, 1894. With the wings of imagination, Charley returned to collect enough money to buy two tickets to Galesburg town for himself and his wife Louisa.

He is staying there in Galesburg since last two weeks and watching various activities and explains to Charley. He invites both Charley and his wife Louisa and motivates them, to continue their search of the third level. So, we can say that Sam was also a victim of worldly worries and seeking the escapement like Charley.
